Brief info

Kenneth Uphopho is a Choreographer, Dancer, Actor, Arts Manager, Director and Acting coach.

Having spent the last ten years developing Actors, creating content and curating opportunities for talent in the creative industry, Kenneth is currently the Festival Director for Lagos Fringe and the pioneer Festival Director for the British Council Lagos Theatre Festival. From an early career in 1997 when he was attracted to dance creation and performance – to 2009 when he began talent development and has committed himself to the conception, construction and performance of theatre.

He is also a Director and partner at PAWSTUDIOS, a Lagos based – company dedicated to creating work that inspires socially relevant debates and live events. The company has since gone on to produce over fifty full-length works that have toured nationally, attracting broad audiences and critical acclaim.

As an actor, he has appeared in over 200 stage productions. In 2013 Kenneth was nominated in the Best Actor category of the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards AMVCA.

Kenneth has also created a number of works with a diverse range of producers, artists and companies. Between 2011 and 2018 he directed several critically acclaimed productions including – amongst others – GULA, SARO the Musical, The Wives, Shift Lemme Faint, Wait, Shattered, Anatomy of a Woman, Rubiewe, Death & the King’s Horseman, Widow’s Window, The Wives, London Life Lagos Living, Next Of Kin, Every Single Day, Band Aid and some others.

His most recent collaborative piece that he wrote and directed titled Esther’s Revenge; an experimental and experiential work which was premiered at the Lagos Theatre Festival 2018 has been shortlisted for showcase at the Inaugural Pan African Creative Exchange scheduled to hold at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa in July 2018.

His other collaborations have also been performed at prestigious venues and festivals including ; Terrakulture, MUSON CENTRE, Lagos Theatre Festival, Cape Town Fringe Festival, Africa International Film Festival, MUSON Festival, Lagos Live Festival and at the African Kiss Festival in Frankfurt Germany.
