Brenda Uphopho is an arts manager and professional arts administrator with experience in both festivals and theatre for the last 10years. She has an appreciation of the vital role of the arts in the community and as a result has been a major contributor to the development of work practice, skill development and acquisition and economic empowerment of performance artists in the creative sector.
A team member and Festival Producer of the disruptive change making organ of the Lagos Theatre Festival since 2014, Brenda has been instrumental in the growth of the largest outdoor theatre festival in West Africa in her capacity as a consultant to the British Council.
She also started the focus group Women in the Arts in 2015 as a semi formal space where female artists across the creative economy can have a networking opportunity. The WIA has hosted various women making giant strides in the industry, in 2017, she hosted the UK Shadow Minister for
Women and Gender Equality Sarah Champion and has gone on to create the first Women in the Arts festival that will showcase female performers in November 2018.
Brenda is a partner and resident Producer for the Performing Arts Workshop and Studios and has produced over 100 live events all over Nigeria. She also delivers lectures and workshops on Theatre Producing, Marketing and Audience development. In 2018, Brenda became an Obama Leader which was in recognition of work done as a staunch advocate for women who have suffered abuse from sexual violence, she continues to advocate through theatre for actionable legislation for the crime.
She is a member of the International Women’s Society, a charity focused organization who help women and children in need.
She has a Digital Marketing Certificate from the University of Illinois and a B.Sc in Computer Science.
